This manual is about version 2.6

Short info

This program can convert text files among many code pages (currently 13). You can easilly convert files just by rightclicking on them in explorer. In main program you can convert whole directory trees.

Quick conversion

Quick conversion is very easy, just select wanted code page (Target file code page) and click convert. Then you can seect file to convert.

Updates

Updates for this program are available on http://cicom.kgb.cz. For easier updates you can use program Updater, which enables comfortable updating CICOM programs.

Source file code page

You can select from many possibilites as shown on image:
Source file code pages
Default is Autodetection, this tries to detect code page of file by analyzing first part of file. How big part is analysed you can set in options. If you select Ascii (7 bit) then chars are not converted, you can change only case or end of line characters.

Case options

You can modify target file letter size. This modifies all letters including these with accents.

Convert files/directories

If you select files you can specify exactly which files to convert. If dirs, only files matching extension from options are converted. If include subdirectories option is checked then all subdirectories are browsed and all matching files are converted.

Save to same/another

If you select save to same file this file is automatically overwritten. If you select to another file you can specify whether program has to ask for overwrite.

End of lines

You can select one of following format for target end of line format:

Default is to change end of line characters according to target code page.

Code page detection

Here are options that are used when detecting code pages. Detection buffer indicates how many bytes are maximally used for detection. The larger buffer should mean better and longer detection. If you check ignore borders, detection algorithm tries to ignore borders. This should make detection more accurate, but if you encounter any problems you should disable this.

Conversion

Options for conversion. Both checkboxes influence what to convert. It is recommended to keep them checked but this conversion can sometimes lose some information (for example: 2 is converted to 2).

Shell Extensions

If Use Shell Extensions is checked, then you can convert files just by rightcliking on them in explorer. Confirm every conversion specifies whether to ask before file is converted if user really wants to convert this file. When you enable option "Shoe detect option" you can easily detect code page of text files. Only code pages selected in next box are shown in context menu. You can select code pages after clicking on drop down button:

Other

Here are option that didn't fit any other category. Save settings on exit is on every startup checked. If you want to manually uninstall this program, uncheck this. Text file extensions specifies extensions that are used in two occasions: while converting directories and in context menu. Only files with extension found in this are converted (have added context menu). Extensions must be divided with char that can't appear in extension (defaultly "|"). Wildcards are not accepted.

Registry

Here you can work with registry. You can reload settings or delete settings (this can be used while manually uninstalling program.

Applies changes and closes options window.

Language files

You can download language files from CodeConv web. Language file will be used when you copy it to CodeConv directory (typically C:\Program Files\CICOM\CodeConv) and name it language.ini.

Manual uninstalation

If you have installed CodeConv by installation program, you can uninstall it from Control Panel - Add/Remove Programs.

Manual uninstallation:

  1. Run CodeConv and go to options window
  2. Uncheck "Use Shell Extensions"
  3. Click OK to apply this
  4. Go back to options window
  5. Uncheck "Save settings on exit"
  6. Click "Delete settings"
  7. Quit program
  8. Delete directory, whrere is program located
